Our new favorite toy.

Priya | January 27, 2009

I am not a morning person. Those who know me know that. You cannot expect me to even try giving you a smile before I have my morning cup of ginger tea. Tanay on the other hand wakes up like the first ray of glorious sunshine… twittering about the house like a happy little birdie. UGH! Now… this is not much of a problem on weekdays, coz I just have to pack him up and send him off to school. The tough part is on weekends. How does one curb all this energy and enthusiasm?!

This past Saturday, we found the perfect answer to our problem. A couple of years ago, Shubham had got this inflatable lion for Tanay, which of course at that time, he really didn’t care for. Lately I have taken up the task of cleaning out the storage room in the basement and this lion was one of the treasures we unearthed. It’s perfect! All you need to do is blow it up and then unleash the terror!!….. while you relax and sip the tea your dear husband just made for you. Aah! Life!

Mornings are getting to be rather interesting….

Priya | January 18, 2009

This morning, Shubham & I were at the kitchen table enjoying our morning cup of ginger tea, while Tanay was busy conducting a fight between Batman & Mickey Mouse. Suddenly…

Tanay: Poo Poo…. Poo Poo…!!!!

Shubham: You go…. I did it yesterday…

Me: No way! You have been away all week…. I am not getting up.

Shubham: Why can’t I read my paper in peace?!

Me: Because that’s why! (which in case you did not know is Tanay’s answer to everything and which we very conveniently use. Face it… it’s an excellent reason!)

Tanay (shaking his head and looking rather exasperated): I don’t need any of you!!! I can go by myself!

And so we spent the next two minutes in peace, until Tanay started running all around the house like a li’l streaker and all hell broke loose!

Not a happy thought to start the day with.

Priya | January 13, 2009

Breakfast time this morning.

Me: Tanay, where are you going?! Please sit in your chair and finish your breakfast.

Tanay (as he goes and lies down on the couch): I need a break!

Me: What??! It’s not even been an hour since you woke up….. and you already need a break??!

Tanay: Yeah…. I need a break from you.

Seriously??!!….. how bad am I getting to be? And no, this is not a question to any of you reading this. Coz, in reality, I don’t want to know.

A late start.

Priya | January 11, 2009

It’s been almost two weeks into the new year and I have just about gotten around to writing my first entry of the year. Not that any of you would be surprised considering the past frequency, but this time I have been genuinely busy. We had a fantastic holiday. Our days were full of good friends, good wine (although I had nothing to do with that…. unfortunately) and good food. Actually make that a LOT of good food. Of course there also was a lot of fighting and squabbling. But then with two toddlers under one roof, I would be alarmed if that weren’t the case.

We are still kinda in a holiday mood. Actually, I think it has something to do with the fact that I still haven’t taken down our Xmas tree. But it just feels so nice and warm to see it shining in the corner of the living room. I know… I know… I will…eventually.

I am very excited about this year. It is bound to be life changing. Tanay will be four in March. He already seems to be all grown up and no longer my baby. His latest passion is Planets and the Solar system. For the first time I am actually excited about this one. As always I know that I am going to learn a lot from him. Everything I know about dinosaurs or super heroes or the millions of villains roaming the earth is because of him and I am so thankful for that. There really was no other way that I would have stepped into a museum or picked up a Marvel comic book.

This evening, he and Shubham went to Barnes & Noble to pick a book on planets. Now, I have to mention that Tanay has a history with book stores. He always goes potty when he is at one. No kidding. ALWAYS. Ever since he was maybe a year old. So much so that, if he hadn’t gone for a couple of days, we would just take him to the the nearest book store. He just feels so comfortable and relaxed there that he just goes. I know he is going to hate me when he grows up for having discussed his pooping patterns in public.

This year for the very first time, I have no resolutions at all. Nothing. There is no point anyways. It’s not as if I stick to them. So why bother. This post has been lying in my drafts for two days now and before I sleep on it anymore, here goes. Hope you all have had a great start to the new year. May this year be a peaceful one.
